My Teaching Motto
Everyone is a WRITER! Yes, you can write. When you enter my classroom... You're a WRITER!
My Classroom Ethos
As an English teacher with a lifelong passion for writing, I discovered my talent in a high school Creative Writing class and further realized my calling while assisting fellow college students. I aim to inspire my students by sharing my experiences with writing challenges, such as writer's block and the reluctance to write, emphasizing the importance of perseverance in improving writing skills.
Previously, as a pre-k teacher, I encouraged exploration and celebrated new achievements, a philosophy I carry into teaching English to foster active reading, critical thinking, and effective writing. My teaching methods adapt to different student levels and backgrounds, incorporating various instructional techniques, including lectures, group discussions, and peer reviews. I utilize diverse assignments and technologies to enhance learning and actively encourage students to seek additional help when needed. Ultimately, I aim to instill a love for writing in my students, equipping them with the skills to express and share their ideas effectively.
Classroom Environment and Expectations
In my classroom, students will find a supportive and dynamic environment that fosters growth, creativity, and intellectual engagement. I encourage each student to explore new ideas and confidently express themselves. This is achieved through traditional teaching methods and interactive activities such as group discussions, peer reviews, and various digital tools to enhance learning.
I set clear expectations for my students, emphasizing the importance of being active in the writing process, respect for diverse opinions, and a commitment to academic integrity. Assignments and projects are designed to improve writing skills and develop critical thinking and the ability to articulate thoughts coherently. I expect students to take responsibility for their learning, to be proactive in seeking help when needed, and to engage actively with the materials and their peers.
The classroom is a space where mistakes are seen as opportunities for learning, and personal development is celebrated. I aim for students to leave my classroom as better writers and more thoughtful individuals who appreciate the power of words and the impact of clear communication.
